INDIA Bloc Meeting Intensifies Political Offensive Against Central Government Over Economy, Elections and Governance

The INDIA Bloc held a high-level meeting at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge, with leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav. The opposition discussed inflation, unemployment, election issues, SIR process concerns, constitutional matters and economic slowdown, while pledging greater unity against the central government.

The INDIA Bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, convened a high-level meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, where it formulated a coordinated strategy to intensify its political offensive against the Central Government on issues related to the economy, social governance, and foreign policy.

The meeting, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, was attended by several prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, All India Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) Member of Parliament Supriya Sule, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, among others. Leaders from a total of 25 political parties participated in the discussions, which continued for approximately two and a half hours.

During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee raised concerns regarding the West Bengal Assembly elections, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process had benefited the Bharatiya Janata Party. She further claimed that the Election Commission had assisted the BJP in securing electoral advantage in West Bengal.

Addressing the gathering, Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted multiple national challenges, including inflation, unemployment, irregularities in the examination system, and economic slowdown. He alleged that millions of citizens were being deprived of their voting rights under the SIR process and accused the system of undermining constitutional principles. Kharge also asserted that the Constitution was under continuous attack.
